TECHS IN CLASS

Information and Communication Technology for ELT

INMERSING MYSELF IN TECH WATER

As a teacher, I feel that I have become a student again, even before my current Master studies when this pandemic time began. I always wondered why most specializations in education were about TICS, it was boring for me because where I work there is no tech tools. The last year I attended some seminars from Building Teaching in Cali, about different tools at Internet and fortunately, they gave us an analogue activity for each one too. I could only use those ones in my public school; but suddenly, one day we had to study at home and everything changed.

For first, the social networks were useful for communication; I created Whatsapp groups and a Facebook profile for students. I still enjoy the states to post funny English memes as motivation to learn. After that, I learnt how to use Meet for synchronic encounters and Classroom for assignments and assessment. Practically, I was repeating in our virtual meetings what I did in face-to-face class; I utilized the same analogue instruments but in front of a computer screen. Although I must recognize that Substitution was starting through Office-documents, platforms, blogs and networks.

My first Augmentation activity was when students made Tiktok videos about urban tribes and later they mixed photography techniques from Art class with the meaning of the lyrics of a song from my class. If you, reader, want to see examples, please visit the pages 10-TENTH and CLUB-10 in this blog. Another amazing activity has been to invite my English-speaker-friends to give the opportunity of new English interactions to my students. Now, I am moving into Moditication and Redefintion thanks to the incredible subject at university with my professor Carolina. Above all I can say that I love this learning time that is building a modern teacher. Thanks life!
